New Chiropractic Edit for Medicare

Effective 8/19/09 a new edit has been put in place for Medicare claims if the specialty of the provider submitting claims is chiropractic. If a chiropractic provider submits CPT codes 98940, 98941 or 98942 and a modifier is not present then the claims will reject with the following error message:

Missing/Invalid Modifier for CPT: 98940 Line: 1

Provider Action:

Please correct and resubmit claims with a modifier. If you do not know what modifier to use please contact your local Medicare customer service or access your local Medicare website for billing chiropractic claims.
