South Carolina Paper Claims
Date: 06/09/2009
Recent healthcare legislation was adopted in South Carolina referred to as the Health Care Financial Recovery and Protection Act and requires compliance by June 11, 2009. Electronic claims may no longer be converted to paper for submission to a payer by a clearinghouse, billing service or any other vendor that contract with a provider to deliver health care claims to an insurer on the provider’s behalf. After careful review of the legislation Infinedi has implemented an edit change that will reject the claim in order to comply with the requirements by the effective date. Beginning June 10, 2009 Infinedi will reject claims to prevent printing and mailing paper claims on behalf of providers to any payer in South Carolina. If the claim cannot be sent electronically to the payer and the payer address contains the state code SC, we will reject the claim with the following error message: Error: South Carolina Payer Requirement: Claim cannot be mailed. This legislation does not affect electronic claim submission. This only affects claims that are mailed to the payer due to the payer not accepting electronic claims or EDI Enrollment is required for that payer. Providers may print their own paper claims and mail them to payers in South Carolina.
