NC Blue Cross/Blue Shield-ERA/EFT Problem

Date:   03/31/2009

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina encountered a problem in completing the IPP BlueCard payment cycle Wednesday evening, 3/18/09. In an effort to correct the incomplete IPP BlueCard payment cycle they attempted to combine the 3/18/09 payment with the 3/19/09 payment cycle for delivery Friday, 3/20/09. The 3/19/09 Explanations of Payment (EOP's) did not balance and it was determined that the total check amount excluded the 3/18/09 payment detail. This also impacted the delivery of 835 electronic remittances. When posting Electronic Payments for March 19, 2009, the provider will need to reference and use the EOP's dated March 22, 2009, to reconcile the IPP BlueCard Electronic Payment received from 3/19/09.

Health care providers will receive two (2) EOP's dated March 22, 2009. One will have the March 18, 2009, claims payment information and the other will have the March 19, 2009, claims payment information. The total amount on these two (2) EOP's will reflect the amount of the Electronic Funds received from the March 19, 2009, EFT date. For 835 remittances, the correct delivery dates for the impacted payment cycles were written to the trading partner's electronic mailbox on 3/22/09 or 3/23/09. Again, these 835 remits should match to the health care provider's March 19, 2009 EFT.
